Ashland taste trends

If your taste in food runs on the trendier side, Ashland has plenty to offer.

Just a block from the Flagship, Morning Glory is a favorite breakfast spot for ABC staffers and clinicians, with treats like the smoked salmon scramble, sourdough blueberry pancakes with lemon butter (pictured above), or lemon ricotta stuffed french toast. They also have a tasty lunch menu.

Standing Stone Brewing Company is more than just a brew pub, with an extensive menu including gourmet wood fired pizzas, locally sourced burgers, various sandwiches, steaks, seafood, pasta, my favorite 5-spice ginger teriyaki ribs, and Cathi’s favorite marionberry cobbler.

Noble Coffee is a transcendent coffee experience. Several local restaurants brew their freshly roasted coffee, which is always delicious, but if you truly love coffee like I do it’s worth your time to visit their roasting shop to explore the full spectrum of their amazing coffee offerings. They totally changed my concept of what coffee can be.

Apple Cellar has featured artisan breads, gourmet pastries, sandwiches, salads, and other food items. Their original shop is on Ashland Street, with a second shop downtown, although I’m hearing now that they may have moved to Jacksonville. I’ll try to update this listing when I find out more.

Thai Pepper offers indoor or outdoor dining along Ashland Creek. Entrees are available family style if you’re dining as a group.

Sesame features a variety of Asian cuisine at the end of the plaza, across the street from Lithia Park.

Pasta Piatti is downtown Ashland’s upscale Italian restaurant with a friendly, relaxed vibe.

Market of Choice has an extensive deli section for great soups, sushi, antipasti, sandwiches, sides, entrees, and baked goods at more budget-friendly prices than many restaurants.

Case Coffee is a tiny coffee house between Flagship and 7-11 with a friendly, energetic staff. They love ABCers and we love them.

Larry’s Cakes opened their specialty “surprise cupcake” shop shortly before ABC 2011, and between the 200+ of us we managed to eat our way through their entire cupcake menu during our stay in Ashland that summer. Although their Beer & Pretzels cupcake is probably the most misunderstood/underappreciated, I still maintain that it’s quite tasty.

Yogurt Hut is bringing frozen yogurt back to downtown Ashland (just like we had back in the 80s, only better). Ask last year’s attendees about the night Col. Gabriel joined them for fro-yo. Since then Rogue Valley Roasting Company has also added a coffee bar to the upper level.

Zoey’s Cafe features BJ’s all natural ice cream in all the standard flavors and all the flavors you only wish would become standard, from fresh peaches, pears, and berries to chocolate nugget. The tastiest study break you’ll ever take!
